You preview before you pay. If the download is materially worse than the preview you approved, we'll refund you.

Good news — your file isn't damaged. No charge.

There's nothing to repair. If it still looks broken, the issue may be the player, codec, or viewer on your device rather than the file itself.

We couldn't recover this one.

The file is too damaged to rebuild, so there is nothing to preview and no charge.

Unrepaired files are kept encrypted for up to 30 days, then deleted.

FileFix can't fix that kind of file yet.

Right now we repair video, audio, document, and image files (MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, WebM, FLV, M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, AIFF, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ZIP, PDF, AI, HEIC, and HEIF). We're adding support for more formats over time.

We store just your email and the file type — never the file itself. One message, when it's ready. No spam.

Why .ai files stop opening

An .ai file can break when a transfer stops partway, a drive is pulled mid-save, a sync client copies a file that was still being written, or a crash leaves a half-finished save on disk.

Illustrator's error does not say whether the artwork survived. FileFix reads what is still intact and shows the result first.

What this can and can't recover

What this can and can't recover

  • Files that stopped copying or downloading partway through.
  • Files where the artwork is still intact but the structure around it is damaged.
  • Files saved with PDF compatibility, where the artwork is still readable.

We can't fix

  • Password-protected files — we don't remove protection.
  • Zero-byte files, and files where the artwork was never written to disk.
  • Editable layers, when the damage reached Illustrator's own editing data — if that part of the file didn't survive, what comes back is the readable artwork, flattened.

Three steps

  1. Upload Drop in the .ai file exactly as it is. Don't try to re-save or convert it first; a re-save can overwrite what we'd otherwise read.
  2. Free Watermarked Preview We show a recovery summary and a preview of the artwork we were able to read, before you pay anything.
  3. Pay & Download One payment of $12 for that file. If the repair doesn't produce a usable file, there's no charge.

You see the result before any payment.

See what's recoverable.

Upload your .ai file. The summary and preview come first — payment only if you want the repaired file.
