We couldn't recover this one.
The file is too damaged to rebuild, so there is nothing to preview and no charge.
What stopped you continuing? One tap tells us why.
Try a deep repair
The repair engine can try a longer pass on the file you already uploaded.
Machine-only processing; no human views files; nothing is sent to an outside AI.
Have another clip from the same device?
A healthy video recorded on the same device — ideally the same settings — gives the repair engine a template to rebuild from. It can unlock repairs that fail on their own.
Unrepaired files are kept encrypted for up to 30 days, then deleted.
FileFix can't fix that kind of file yet.
Right now we repair video, audio, document, and image files (MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, WebM, FLV, M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, AIFF, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ZIP, RAR, PDF, AI, HEIC, and HEIF). We're adding support for more formats over time.

When an .ai file is damaged
Most damaged .ai files were cut short: a download or copy that stopped partway, a sync client that grabbed the file mid-save, or a crash during a save.
Many .ai files carry a PDF-compatible copy of the artwork next to Illustrator's own editing data. When that copy is still readable, the artwork can come back even if Illustrator refuses the file.
What this can and can't recover
What this can and can't recover
- Files that stopped copying or downloading partway through.
- Files where the artwork is still intact but the structure around it is damaged.
- Files saved with PDF compatibility, where the artwork is still readable.
We can't fix
- Password-protected files — we don't remove protection.
- Zero-byte files, and files where the artwork was never written to disk.
- Editable layers, when the damage reached Illustrator's own editing data — if that part of the file didn't survive, what comes back is the readable artwork, flattened.
Three steps
-
Upload Drop in the .ai file exactly as it is. Don't try to re-save or convert it first; a re-save can overwrite what we'd otherwise read.
-
Free watermarked preview We show a recovery summary and a preview of the artwork we were able to read, before you pay anything.
-
Pay & download One payment of $12 USD for that file. If the repair doesn't produce a usable file, there's no charge.
You see the result before any payment.
See what's recoverable.
Upload your .ai file. The summary and preview come first — payment only if you want the repaired file.

Questions
No. Upload the file exactly as it is. A re-save or a conversion can overwrite parts of the file we would otherwise read.
No. You get a recovery summary and a preview first. Payment is $12 USD for that one file, and there's no charge if the repair doesn't produce a usable file.
It depends on the damage, and the preview shows you which one you're getting before you pay. Illustrator keeps the editable version of your file in a private section alongside the artwork. If that section was cut off — common when a transfer or save stopped partway — what comes back is the readable artwork, flattened. We have not yet reopened a repaired file in Illustrator to confirm its layers are still editable, so we don't promise editable layers — judge your own file by the preview.
