FileFix

Fix a Reolink NVR export that won't play on your PC.

Reolink footage that plays in the Reolink app but not in VLC or Windows is usually fine — it just needs to be re-packaged into a standard file. If a USB or NVR backup was pulled mid-write and is truncated, that's a repair. Upload it and we'll sort out which it is.

Good news — your file isn't damaged. No charge.

There's nothing to repair. If it still looks broken, the issue may be the player, codec, or viewer on your device rather than the file itself.

We couldn't recover this one.

The file is too damaged to rebuild, so there is nothing to preview and no charge.

Unrepaired files are kept encrypted for up to 30 days, then deleted.

FileFix can't fix that kind of file yet.

Right now we repair video, audio, document, and image files (MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, WebM, FLV, M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, AIFF, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ZIP, PDF, AI, HEIC, and HEIF). We're adding support for more formats over time.

We store just your email and the file type — never the file itself. One message, when it's ready. No spam.

Why Reolink recordings won't play off-device

Reolink cameras and NVRs record efficient H.264 or H.265 video, but the way they wrap that video into a file — and often the H.265 codec itself — trips up standard desktop players. So a recording that looks perfect inside the Reolink app or web client can open to a black screen, audio-only, or an error in VLC, QuickTime, or Windows Media Player.

In a lot of these cases the footage isn't damaged at all — it's a container and codec mismatch. Re-packaging the stream into a clean, standard MP4 (remuxing) makes it play everywhere, without re-encoding or losing quality. That's the most common fix, and it's fast.

The other case is a genuinely broken export: you copied a clip to a USB stick or pulled a backup off the NVR and the transfer was interrupted, or the drive filled up, leaving a truncated file. Then the footage is partly written but the file is missing its end and its index, so nothing will open it.

FileFix handles both: we re-package a mismatched-but-healthy stream so it plays on any computer, and we rebuild a truncated export around the footage that survived. You'll see the result in a free preview before paying — and if the export is empty, we tell you plainly and don't charge.

What we can and can't fix

We can usually fix

  • The recording is healthy but won't play off-device because of a Reolink container/H.265 mismatch, or a USB/NVR backup was truncated mid-copy — we remux or rebuild it into a file that plays anywhere.

We can't fix

  • The export is 0 bytes or the transfer captured no footage at all — there's nothing to re-package or rebuild. More on that →

How it works
