FileFix

Fix an old FLV file that won't play.

Old FLV (Flash Video) files often won't open in modern players because Flash was retired at the end of 2020 and the format was left behind. When the video data is still inside the file, FileFix may be able to rebuild it into a file that plays today — upload it and we'll show you a free preview first, and you only pay if it worked.

Drop a broken video file here — the free preview shows what's recoverable before you pay.

Files up to 2 GB.

Repair your file

Choose a supported file to see what can be repaired before checkout.

You preview before you pay. If the download is materially worse than the preview you approved, we'll refund you.

Try another file

Good news — your file isn't damaged. No charge.

There's nothing to repair. If it still looks broken, the issue may be the player, codec, or viewer on your device rather than the file itself.

We couldn't recover this one.

The file is too damaged to rebuild, so there is nothing to preview and no charge.

Unrepaired files are kept encrypted for up to 30 days, then deleted.

FileFix can't fix that kind of file yet.

Right now we repair video, audio, document, and image files (MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, WebM, FLV, M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, AIFF, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ZIP, PDF, AI, HEIC, and HEIF). We're adding support for more formats over time.

We store just your email and the file type — never the file itself. One message, when it's ready. No spam.

Why old FLV files stop playing

FLV (Flash Video) was the container behind most web video from roughly 2005 to 2015 — early YouTube and Vimeo clips, webcam captures, screen recordings, and streamed-then-saved video. When Adobe retired Flash at the end of 2020, browsers and most modern players dropped FLV support, so a file that opened fine for years now shows an error or a black screen.

Some FLV files also never finished writing in the first place: a screen recorder that crashed, a stream capture that cut off, or an interrupted download can leave the video data present but the small structural index a player needs to open it missing or incomplete.

In both cases the footage is often still inside the file. FileFix reads what was written, attempts to rebuild the missing structure, and produces a file that today's players can open. You watch a free watermarked preview and see exactly how much came back before paying anything.

Two honest limits: if the recorder stopped so early that little real video was written, there may be too little to rebuild. And a 0-byte file has nothing inside to recover. In either case we tell you and don't charge.

What we can and can't fix

We can usually fix

  • Old .flv files that won't open in modern players, or that stopped playing after Flash was retired — when the video data is present, we attempt to rebuild them into a file that plays.

We can't fix

  • 0-byte FLV files, or captures that cut out before real video was written. More →

How it works

  1. Upload Drop a supported video file in. It uploads over an encrypted connection. The repair runs automatically — no person watches your file.
  2. Free Watermarked Preview You see a free watermarked preview and exactly how much we recovered.
  3. Pay & Download If it's right, you pay $19 once and download a clean, full-quality MP4.

About half of real-world corrupted files repair fully; you preview before paying.
