FileFix

Fix a corrupted NVIDIA ShadowPlay recording that won't play.

When ShadowPlay or Instant Replay saves a clip and the game crashes, the footage is usually written but the index that makes it playable never is. Upload the file and we'll try to rebuild it.

You preview before you pay. If the download is materially worse than the preview you approved, we'll refund you.

Good news — your file isn't damaged. No charge.

There's nothing to repair. If it still looks broken, the issue may be the player, codec, or viewer on your device rather than the file itself.

We couldn't recover this one.

The file is too damaged to rebuild, so there is nothing to preview and no charge.

Unrepaired files are kept encrypted for up to 30 days, then deleted.

FileFix can't fix that kind of file yet.

Right now we repair video, audio, document, and image files (MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, VOB, 3GP, WebM, FLV, M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, AIFF, XLSX, DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ZIP, PDF, AI, HEIC, and HEIF). We're adding support for more formats over time.

We store just your email and the file type — never the file itself. One message, when it's ready. No spam.

Why ShadowPlay clips come out broken

NVIDIA's GeForce Experience / ShadowPlay records at high bitrate straight to an MP4, and it writes the actual footage as it goes. The small block that tells a player how to read that footage — the moov atom, essentially the file's table of contents — is only written when recording stops cleanly.

If the game crashes, the driver resets, the PC hard-locks, or Instant Replay's buffer is cut off mid-flush, ShadowPlay never gets to write that index. You're left with a full-size MP4 that every player opens, fails to find an index in, and refuses to play — often with no error at all, or "moov atom not found."

The footage itself is almost always intact, which makes this one of the more recoverable capture failures. FileFix reads the video and audio that's present, reconstructs a valid index around it, and rebuilds a file that plays normally. You see exactly how much we recovered in a free preview before paying anything.

The one case we can't fix: if the crash killed recording before any footage was flushed to disk — a 0-byte or near-empty file — there's nothing to rebuild an index around. When that's true we tell you plainly and don't charge you.

What we can and can't fix

We can usually fix

  • The clip has real footage but is missing its index after a crash or driver reset — the classic ShadowPlay / Instant Replay failure.

We can't fix

  • The file is 0 bytes or the footage was never flushed to disk before the crash. There's nothing to rebuild. More on that →

How it works

  1. Upload Drop a supported video file in. It uploads over an encrypted connection. The repair runs automatically — no person watches your file.
