Why MKV files stop playing
MKV (Matroska) is written by OBS, many screen and game recorders, and video tools. Video and audio sit in clusters, while the seek index (cues) and the duration are usually written when the recording stops.
A crash, a power cut or a copy that stopped partway can leave the index missing, timestamps broken or the last cluster cut short. Players then refuse the file, cannot seek, or stop early.
FileFix reads the clusters that are present and rebuilds a playable file, and only offers checkout when it produces one. Footage that never reached the file cannot be recreated.
