Why MPEG and MPG files stop playing
MPEG (.mpeg or .mpg) files are MPEG program streams, written by older camcorders, TV capture cards, DVD rips and converters. Video and audio are interleaved in small packs, each with its own header and timestamps.
A capture that stopped without closing the file, a copy that ended early, or damaged packs in the middle can make players refuse the file, show the wrong length or stop partway, even though most packs are intact.
FileFix reads the packs that are present and rebuilds a playable file, and only offers checkout when it produces one. Footage that never reached the file cannot be recreated.
