Why Zoom recordings get stuck as "double_click_to_convert"
When you record a Zoom meeting to your computer, Zoom doesn't write a finished MP4 the whole time. It writes the raw audio and video to temporary files, then runs its own converter at the end of the meeting to assemble the playable .mp4. That conversion step is the part that usually breaks.
If Zoom crashes, the app is force-quit, the laptop sleeps or shuts down, or the meeting ends abnormally, the converter never runs. You're left with files named like "double_click_to_convert_..." that sit there — and double-clicking them either does nothing, hangs, or throws a conversion error.
Before anything else, try Zoom's built-in recovery: open the Zoom desktop app, go to the meeting-recordings location, and double-click the file (or use Zoom's "Convert" option). A large share of stuck recordings finish converting this way for free, and we'd always rather you get it back at no cost than pay us for something Zoom can do itself.
Where FileFix helps is the case Zoom's converter can't finish: the raw recording was truncated because the meeting was cut off mid-write, so Zoom's own tool errors out or produces an MP4 that still won't play.
