Why a Teams recording won't play

Most modern Teams meeting recordings are saved to OneDrive or SharePoint and stream from there. If a recording won't play in the browser or the Stream player, that's usually not a corrupt file at all — it can still be processing after the meeting, or you may not have permission to view it. In those cases there's no broken file to fix, and the answer is to wait for processing or check sharing permissions. We'll say so plainly rather than take your money.

The case we do fix is a Teams recording you have as an actual MP4 file — downloaded from OneDrive/SharePoint, saved from an older local-recording setup, or exported — that won't open in a normal player. When one of those files is truncated, it opens to a black screen, an error, or plays for a moment and stops.

That truncation happens when the download was interrupted, the local recording was cut off by a crash or a dropped meeting, or the file was copied off a device mid-write. The footage is written, but the index that tells a player how to read it is incomplete.
