Why a WhatsApp voice message won't play
WhatsApp voice messages commonly store compressed audio in an Opus stream, while shared recordings can also arrive in an M4A container. Playback depends on intact page, packet, and container metadata around the audio payload.
An interrupted download, export, or copy can truncate that structure. The player then cannot locate or decode the remaining audio even when part of the recording is still present.

The voice message may have been incompletely downloaded, copied before transfer finished, or saved with damaged OGG/Opus container data. A valid filename alone does not mean the audio stream is complete.
It can attempt to rebuild audio data that remains in the uploaded file. If a playable result is produced, you hear a preview before deciding whether to download it.
It cannot supply bytes that never reached the file. If possible, download or export the message again first; use repair when a clean copy is unavailable.
